A pain in the ass is a pain in the ass

And lo, unto them was a Great TRUTH revealed.
A voice spake thus: "Surgical removal of anything
from your posterior will cause great suffering when sitting."
They knew not what this 'surgical' was that this voice spake of,
but 'suffering' was understood clearly. As one,
they fell upon their faces and cried out, lamenting,
gnashing their teeth, and rending their garments.

George Bush apparently believes Hollywood == Reality, chooses Fred Thompson to assist future Supreme Court nominee through the confirmation process
Yes, I know Fred Thompson has a law degree, but every report I've seen has HAD to mention Law & Order. I weep.

Memories of a day
May. 31st, 2005 12:56 pmSince I am now doped to my eyeballs due to a back strain incurred in bed last night, this will be short-ish.
-- Ren Fair seems a lot more interesting when you get to view it through first timers' eyes.
-- Little in this world is funnier than a 4 year old waving a sword twice his length on stage.
-- My teenage son got hit on by the hot teenage fairy. Hilarity ensued.
-- I appear to have gained the ability to summon old friends by speaking their name. At least, I managed to do so with an ex-jouster I haven't seen in 15 years yesterday.
-- Just because you *can* wear something does not mean it is a good idea. This goes double for Spandex.
-- Ren Fairs have gotten more adept at the whole "Separatesuckers patrons from their money" schtick.
-- Full Elizabethan garb looks mighty uncomfortable in mid-80s weather.
-- Annette is hawt in "busty wench" garb. I'm a lucky man.

Welcome to the American Taliban.
May. 26th, 2005 07:21 amFor a long time, I thought people throwing about the words 'Theocracy' and 'America' in the same sentence were in the same category as those who used 'Orbital' and 'Mind Control Laser'.
Not anymore.
I'm sorry, your religion is not on the approved list.
I'd really, *really* like to see this sort of shit stop.

May. 25th, 2005 05:07 pmGee. Wonder what the Hardly-Ever-Right-Wing will have to say about this...
FBI report obtained via FOIA
Why oh why does the FBI hate America?

May. 25th, 2005 12:26 pmMinnesota Judge rules that the mere presence of encryption software represents criminal intent.
I'm not really sure what to say to this.
Fuck.

May. 25th, 2005 08:28 amI donate a lot of spare CPU cycles to various projects, some of which are factorization projects. So, to much fanfare (and to nobody's delight, since math is boring, yo) I present the results of a GNFS factorization that completed last night:
( Math geek stuff, longish )
God, I'm boring.

May. 24th, 2005 09:43 pmOK, OK. I guess I agreed to do this. Disclaimer: I reserve the right to simply make shit up in the event that nothing comes to me in a reasonable timeframe.
01. Reply with your name and I will write something about you.
02. I will then tell what song/movie reminds me of you.
03. If I were to apply an o'clock to you, it would be...
04. I will try to name a single word that best describes you.
05. I'll tell you the most memorable moment I've had with you.
06. I will tell you what animal you remind me of.
07. I'll then tell you something that I've always wondered about you.
08. Put this in your journal.

Voices from the void
May. 24th, 2005 04:35 pmWell, Annette just called to see how my day has gone.
I don't think 'thrilled' is too strong a word for her feelings about contact resuming with so many from the former group. She's been reading rasfwr-j via Google Groups for quite a while, but not posting, and has regretted losing touch with all of you (as opposed to me, Mr. Apathy In a Can). Suffice it to say, *she* now wants one of these there LJ-thingies.
Consider the floor open for LJ-nick suggestions.
*EDIT* Floor is now closed, she decided upon
hennyanya, her FFXI character name. Go assault her Friends list while she's off at choir practice!

May. 24th, 2005 12:10 pmWow, so hi all.
theweaselking sparked a serious growth in my readership. Blame will be apportioned later.
Since eleventybillionandone of you now reading are familiar with my family from years past, a quick update on how everyone is:
Annette -- lovely as ever. She's now teaching at a private grade school (Pre-K through 8th grade) as their computer instructor. She's also attending a local university to finish her degree. Currently recuperating from ankle surgery to remove a ganglion cyst (OK, so she's actually pretty much recuperated, just doing physical therapy now, but it sounds better that way.)
Tynan -- now taller than Annette, sporting peach fuzz and gallivanting about St. Louis on his class trip. Alternates between surly and psychotic, AKA "The Teenager". Heir to the throne left vacant by, well, nobody, since I'm still alive. Starts 9th grade this fall.
Ian -- 4 year old geek in training. Known to walk up to complete strangers, introduce himself and his brother, and wheedle entire life stories out of people in under 2 minutes. My heart attack waiting to happen, but an absolute joy to be around. Loves computers to pieces, sometimes literally.
So, how's everyone out there?
